Hello everyone,
I’m very pleased to have your precious time to look into my experiences during teaching practice at CST CVP BYLAKUPPE. My name is Tenzin Nyibhum and my hometown is bylakuppe. Right now I’m pursuing for the B.Sc. B.Ed. degree and this semester is my last semester. In B.Ed., there’s a practical teaching practice for almost 50days to different schools in India and I would like to share my experience as a teacher trainee in my hometown during my practical turn.
Just like in every journey, my heart pounds louder as we reach closer towards my hometown. We booked train from the Varanasi City, which is called as a cultural state of India. Lying across a bank of river Ganga, where every rishis and sadus prays along the river and many worshippers as well as sightseeing people enjoys the beautiful flow of the river. Forty hours travelling from the northern to southern parts of India was an enthusiastic for me to reach closer towards my hometown. The warm air refreshes and recalls my days in Bangalore. Each one of us, carrying our own luggage and we hurried inside the bus that would ride us till Bylakuppe from Bangalore. The sound of the kanada people gossiping around and yelling to each other brought a bright smile on my face. A bit was changed but many of the old dhabas and barber shop at the corner were still confining to its same old spot. One such Ridha dhaba which was famous for its parata and kushka is still famous and can see the rush inside the hotel. We were met by many local Tibetans and passed by many camps on our way to home but the beautiful landscape of bylakuppe and pleasant feeling in my heart removes all the tiredness from my face. We rested for a day and joint the school on next day.
The first day of school was a very emotional and every parts of school remind me one of my school days. An open playground, surrounded by the boundaries along with the trees reminds me running and playing along my friends. Many of the infrastructures were modified. Our academic block was shifted and the classes were rearranged into other rooms. I could see many new faces as well as many of the old faces. Many of the teachers were also known to me and only few were meeting for the first time. We greeted our mentor and along with the mentor, we visited the principal’s office after which they calculated and decided my teaching class period. During my stay as a teacher, there were a total number of hundred and twelve students in the school. There were twenty six students in class 8 and twenty eight students in class 9 new. The school itself has a very good structure of education. It believes in the core development of personalities along with the education. I was quickly able to adjust with the school environment. Every student’s beautiful smile brightens our day and every student’s determination to study encourages us to teach better. I taught science in class 8 and 9 new. My first day lesson was a very brief and I started with the introduction of lesson. At the end of my teaching practice, I was able to complete 5 chapters in class 8 and 4 chapters in class 9 new. During my stay, I also observed many of the behaviours, personalities, leadership quality among students, knowledge about Tibet issue and some of the exclusive news about the world likewise I was also able to learn many of the new ideas from the students and ways of dealing with the children and other local people. The safe drinking water for the children was constructed next to the kitchen and every students thirst was fulfilled. Since our time, there were problems regarding bathroom and toilet block but looking now, there has been a drastically change in the cleanliness of the bathroom. The infrastructure was greatly modified to solve the various small problems in bathroom.
The basketball court surrounded by the academic and administration block was beautifully turned into an indoor court with the roof over that prevents the heavy rain and also protect from the hot sunny days. The entire school campus has become a real learning place for students. It is generally known that in classroom, you’ll find every personalities depicting from good behaviour to bad, talkative to silence and discipline to mischievous ete. If I am suppose to compare the two classes then it would be very hard for me but my interaction with both the classes were very blessed to me. Normally the school starts at 9am but students and many of the teachers come to school earlier and take Morning Prayer session and revision session as well. The school bus goes twice in the morning and in the evening. Alternatively the bus goes first and second trip every day. Around 8 in the morning, every student were gathered inside the school campus and Morning Prayer was held by the respective teachers. School timetable was perfectly prepared which describes the eight classes, two short breaks and one lunch break. Students sit along the same houses during lunch meals. Senior students take keen participative in carrying the meal bucket form the kitchen and serve them to their own houses. Some of the classes also take keen interest in watering the flower pots in the school campus during the break time. Many of the students play on the ground and court during lunch break. Some of the senior boys play football and basketball in a very passionate manner and shows real sportsmanship spirit. School has a strict discipline that stops students from many distractions and such discipline were remarkably beneficial for students themselves as well. During every Saturday, students wear their own house dress which really brightens the school environment. They sit along the same houses during assembly and does morning exercise with the backtrack from band group of the school. During my stay at school, I didn’t saw any of the morning assembly activities like we use to do during our times. Such morning activities could be the best platform to improve our speaking in front of the school. I had a very good time sharing my knowledge with the students of class 8 and 9 but they also taught me many of their ideas and way of thinking differently. During every class, I use to carry the general knowledge question from one class to another; such activities brought so many unities among the class and their joy of representing oneness. There is a slightly change in the behaviour between younger students from class 6, 7 and the elder students from class 8, 9. Such that many of the students from class 6, 7 were very obedient and they also try to complete the homework given to them on time, unlike elder students from class 8, 9. Though the campus seems very small in an area but it has all the resources needed for a proper learning. Science laboratory was enrich with many beautiful charts and models on the wall, the basic instruments to perform experiments were placed on the table and all three subjects including biology, physics and chemistry section were clearly separated. I visited school library often and saw that many of the books were still same without any new editions in the column. I could still sense the taste of every student over choosing the books such as Tintin, Aladdin, and Twinkle etc. There’s a new room for Tibetan reading section that really helps every determined students to come and read any books in Tibetan. The relationship between teachers and students, teachers and teachers and teachers and administration was strongly bonded by the faithful in their work. Such collaboration brings perfect teaching learning process in the school. On the last day of our teaching practice, our mentor called us in principal’s office and along with them we had a long discussion about our own perspective and ideas. All the paper works were done and at the end, I went along some classes to bid them goodbye.
Though this might doesn’t make any sense but I do have an objection regarding the teaching practice duration. Without pointing any wrong to other person, I would like to request for further introspection on duration, i.e. there should be two session of teaching practice instead of one. So that not only to me but also such changes might bring a lot more improvement among the student teacher. As a saying, ‘perfect practice makes a man perfect’. Every student teacher who recently went for a teaching practice in different school has improved a lot in their teaching methods but suppose if we had a two session of teaching practice then on the chart from 1 to 10, I believe the result won’t be less than 9. Taking it into consideration as a request to think once, I conclude my teaching experience with lots of love.
Thank you.
