On 3rd April 2017, we ( botany and zoology) students attended the
one day education trip to MICROTEK college of management and technology, Varanasi.
we divided the class into two sessions.
In the first session i.e in morning session,
We started about the functioning of ambient air collection with an instrument.(air testing kit) by
the procedures were explained to us in a very reasonable, understandable and easily memorisable. It starts with the sucking of atmospheric air through a pipe, there is a filter paper blocked inside a pipe which would separate the macro substances.
After filter paper, it goes through a bubblers that would trap certain gases need to be check. And at last, the pipe joints the pump to control the pressure on bubblers
After this, our own botany sir(A. N. Singh) explained us about the functioning and model of many instruments like centrifuge, incubator, water testing kit, autoclave, hot air oven, bacteriological incubator and laminar air flow.
studying about these instrument and their functioning is very interesting to know. It brighten our imagination of certain instrument which were far modernised technologies.
We were then taught with PowerPoint presentation of various unidentified indigenous plants like tree tomato, wing bead, arrow head etc which were not popular in the city's area but they were being used by many in the ancient and by rural people.
This section is very interesting to know the various indigenous plants that were very helpful in the field of medicines, and their useful aspects to rural people.
We also studied about the names of many indigenous plants with clear pictures.
After the PowerPoint presentation we did an experiment on staining of lactobacillus (curd)
We were revised with the steps involved in this experiment and at the end of the experiment, we can present the slide on the screen with the help of MIPS ( showing the picture on the laptop screen )
Most of our slides were successfully able to recognise the content of lactobacillus bacteria on the screen.
Lunch break
After a quick lunch, our afternoon section was doing a practical of luria Bertani agar miller.
We studied every steps involved in this practical, staring with how to prepare a medium which includes the various components and its volume needed.
We also studied about how to use the laminar air flow by preparing a culture medium on the Petri dish.
In the end, we kept the medium inside the incubator.
Our educational trip to MICROTEK college of management and technology ended around 5:30 in the evening day. It was very good to learn something more about the related topic based upon the syllabus contents and further this educational trip encourages and enlightens our interest in studying.
Lastly I would like to thank our botany sir ( A N Singh ) for showing us the path of knowledge and thank the centre for allowing us to go for one day educational trip.
